For a number of years I have concentrated mainly on relief printing, particularly Lino Cuts. I enjoy pushing at the boundaries of this familiar medium. I find the challenge of working in reverse and having to think in layers of colour stimulating. I use drawings, photographs and artefacts as starting points for my work. My images have been inspired by my reflections on, and reactions to, Landscapes, Natural Forms or Poetry.
More recently, I have found myself interested in documenting my
experiences as the mother of twin disabled children. The work in my
‘Current Portfolio’ concerns some of the consequences resulting from
their extremely premature births. Now my children are older and I have
some distance between the shock of their birth and our lives today,
I have been able to explore some aspects of this.
Putting this site together has enabled me to rediscover earlier work and realise the breadth of subject matter I have been interested in and how that has developed into my current interests. Some elements of my work seem to be a constant. For example my interest in lettering, which figured in early prints from my Degree work at Portsmouth Polytechnic and still has a large presence in my current work. It is undoubtedly the influence of my father Bryant Fedden, Sculptor and Letter Cutter. I have a fascination with a very complicated and painterly approach to Relief Printing which contrasts with a love of the simple and graphic.
I hope you enjoy looking at my art work. Most of it is for sale. I
am available for workshops and commissions. Please feel free to
contact me.
