I have kept some old rose prunings from a previous home because I was drawn to their shapes and their prickly, truncated nature. They have an expressive and emotive quality which reminds me of the human figure. Over the years I have made successive observational drawings of them, some of which have found their way into my prints.
The prints ‘Musings on Rose Prunings I,II & III’ explore a dialogue which is all about movement and stillness, substance and void, object and shadow, through the use of two contrasting techniques within the genre of linocut; controlled graphic cuts and painterly caustic etching.
